There is something that holds most of us back from our dreams, regardless of how different those dreams may be. That thing is our scarcity mindset.
A scarcity mindset is the lack of belief that we are worthy or deserving of what we want. It is the belief that money is hard to get and there is not enough of it for everyone. It is the lack of belief in the abundance that exists around us in the world, if we only open our eyes to it in its many forms and iterations.
I had a very unhealthy relationship with money and abundance for most of my life. I’m working on it now, though it’s a tough one to shift. My beliefs about scarcity vs. abundance were passed down to me by my parents, and likely through many generations of my family before them. Money has never felt safe to me. Either there wasn’t enough of it, or if there was, it would soon slip away. My primary feeling when it came to money was fear. Not only that, I believed people who actually have money are inherently bad or dishonest or selfish.
It took me a long time to make friends with the idea that money is simply energy. It is neutral. It is meant to flow freely through our lives. What we choose to do with that energy is on us. I also never quite understood that there are infinite forms of abundance in this world aside from money. Yes, we all need a certain amount of money to get by, but we can find so much peace, joy and happiness in other areas. Ironically, when we find abundance elsewhere, that tends to inform more abundance financially as well. When we believe that we are supported and we will figure out how to meet our needs, we get out of our own way. We allow our lives to flow more efficiently and freely.
It seems to me that the majority of us who have grown up in a capitalist society in less-than-rich families suffer from a scarcity mindset. We are stuck in survival mode when it comes to our beliefs around our basic needs being met. I’ve also discovered that there is no way to ignore or bypass dealing with this. No matter what, it always sneaks in to thwart my energy in whatever else I’m trying to accomplish. I’ve started actively working on shifting this every day, because now I recognize that if I don’t believe I deserve what I want, I cannot get it! There’s no point in trying to force it. It’s time to go back to the root of the problem and heal it.
There is no easy fix here. If you want to get past your abundance mindset issues, you have to work through them. That’s what’s necessary. I believe that you can do this! We all can. Sending you love.
