I’m not talking just a little leap, I’m talking way out. Like, so far you have no idea what’s coming.
I notice that I get comfortable quite quickly, and need shaking up in order to keep myself alive and interested. I like being in new situations – I find it awakens me. Still, even though I know this, I’m reluctant to change anything once I feel safe and secure. I know that my strengths lie in keeping life interesting for myself, so once I feel complacent… it’s time to try something new.
You can definitely practice with little leaps first. You don’t have to do anything totally drastic. Maybe you aren’t the sort of person who needs this kind of change for growth. I think most of us do, though, if we’re really honest with ourselves. If we aren’t getting uncomfortable, we aren’t learning and evolving. If we aren’t growing, what’s the real point of being alive at all?
I’m really far out of my comfort zone right now, just like I was last winter when I traveled to Costa Rica with no idea what I was getting into. That situation was challenging, rewarding, and forced me to grow in so many ways – it was a total blessing. Eventually, I got comfortable there, as we always do when we are forced to adapt to something new.
Now I’m at a Hindu temple in the middle of Utah, at a workstay learning to work with llamas and taking classes on the Bhagavad Gita. Yeah, you read that correctly. I just up and decided to come to the middle of Utah and try something totally new. I was feeling stagnant, confused, and stuck – so I’m shaking things up. This was the opportunity that worked out most clearly at this time, so I’m trusting that the universe is supporting me on my journey. If it’s not the right place for me, I’ll know soon enough.
Some people are much more adventurous than me, traveling this way and learning new things all the time. Some people don’t understand what I’m doing at all. I would like to be more like the former, and I’m trying, little by little, every day. Life is meant to be lived as fully as possible, and I’m trying to do that now.
I know you don’t like the idea of getting way out of your comfort zone. That’s the entire point. If you don’t grow, you stagnate. You become dissatisfied, bored, complacent. Is that what you want? I don’t think it is. Maybe I’m wrong, but I believe that your life can be so much more interesting. Try taking a leap. It might just pay off. Sending you love.
